How do I know if I have endometriosis?

I had my first period when I was 13, I am now 20 and I have never really had a proper cycle of periods – I have been to see my GP about it numerous times, but they told me that I was still in puberty and my period hadn’t regulated, that I was stressed with A -Levels/ Uni etc.

Basically, I had never heard of enomtriosis until I mentioned to my mum that I was starting on Contraceptive pills for the first time (a few months ago) and I had been bleeding while on them – She told me to be careful because she obviously knew about my erratic periods and told me she had had a lot of problems with her periods when she was younger and suffered from it and she told me that she knew it could be hereditary.

I have done a bit of research into it, but I have no idea how to make sure I don’t have it, and I’d rather not go through the embarrassment of a gyno visit if I can prevent it..

Basically, I had my first period when I was 13, and didn’t get another one until I was 15. Since then I’ve had a few periods and they’re never the same – some are a lot heavier than others, some are very light. It’s common for me to get spotting in between periods.

I rarely have two periods within a month of each other – I have attempted to keep a record of my cycle but it’s just too eratic. I can go for months without one, then months with them. I am at uni now but I don’t feel stressed and I eat healthily and balanced and exercise well, so any theories about stress I don’t feel have a basis anymore – Stress isn’t what’s preventing me having a period!

The amount of pain I get changes a lot too – sometimes I get barely any cramping, at the worst time in my memory I felt stabbing pains and could barely walk – I lay on the sofa with paracetamol and a hot water bottle and could barely move! luckily this doesn’t happen often, but I sometimes feel cramps with no sign of a period.

Most recently, I had a bizarre illness around the time I should have had a period – I had a fever and felt constantly nauseous (But didn’t throw up at all) and had diarrhoea for about a week. I had bad abdominal pain too, near my tummy and lower back. I went to the doctor but they lost my urine sample (!!!) and I was told it was probably a virus (I wasn’t really satisfied with this, I felt she was sweeping it under the general virus infection rug)

Also, I have always seemed to suffer from fatigue – I get tired very easily, despite eating all the right foods (such as natural sugars, like bananas and slow release carbs like sweet potato.)

My mum has said she mostly experienced severe period pain and that she was put on the pill, but she doesn’t seem to recall her symptoms because it was a while ago.

I’m aware that I could go on the pill and if I had enometriosis that would pretty much clear up the symptoms, but I’m concerned if it affects my infertility, especially if the pills make it worse – I tried to go on the mini-pill and it caused me constant bleeding for at least 4 weeks, and my friends on the pill tell me this can happen as it takes a while for the body to adjust to the hormones.

Can anyone offer me advice? Should my periods worry me? I should really be out of puberty now and they have shown no signs of regulating! I feel I should mention I am a healthy size 10, I have a balanced diet and I would walk, swim and excercise on the gymn, roughly at least 3 times a week for 30 mins minimum.

I’d love to hear from anyone who suffers from it too!

me and my husband have been ttc for 1 year now we already have a 4 year old, i have had the 21 day tests from my gp and she is now refering me to the fertility consultant at the hospital with any of your expreriances did you have to do lots of other tests before they tried clomid or is that the next step, my gp did say this will be the next step but i would hate to get there and they say i got to wait longer still. and advice is helpfull

ok so me and my husband have been trying to conceive for a year now with no luck, i went to my GP today for some advice and she is starting fertility investigations, i have too go back for a blood test on tuesday for a blood test to check if i am ovulating. will my doctor ask me to come in for the results? if it comes back saying i am not ovulating, does that mean i am infertile? if so what happens next? please answer i am really confused.

I have done some research and found out that if i have a baby then my health issues with Pcos will improve. Do you know if this true in most cases?

I’m not ready to be a mother myself, but i really need my health issues improved so i can hold a job down properly and not have to ring my employer and say i cant come in today because i’m laid up in bed in agony, im sooooo unreliable right now no treatment works either i’ve had injections, the pill (which is spost to be the cure for PCOS but it actually makes me worse) I have had PCOS since i was 14. I am going to be 19 in june and yes i no i’m young and i think people won’t trust a 19year old but i dont smoke and i dont drink. I go walking with my partner up monutains every month when i feel up to it so i am quite healthy.

I would really like to be a surrogant mother for someone, so that we both benefit from the process, they’d be helping me and i’d be helping them.

I have a cyst on my ovary and it keeps coming back, i”ve been told by my GP that my hormone imbalance is fine and the cyst keeps coming back because i do ovulate.I’ve not been on any contraception for 18months me and my partner we’re trying for that ammount of time but it never happened. So i’m not sure wether anyone would accept me
when i have PCOS, and i have never had my own child and i have never had fertility treatment. (but if i ovulate naturally then i think i would be ok) and it might of had somthing to do with my partner with why it never happend for us because as i no it takes two.
What do you think?
Please don’t just put go to your GP i’m looking for proper answers and if anyone has ever been in the same situation

I would like to know about what to expect when i speak to the GP… what Q will they ask? What do i need to tell them? What happens next?

I am scared about it so any advice is helpful.
