Can anyone give me some advice – I had a miscarriage in Oct 07 & since then been unable to conceive, the doctors told me & hubby it was because of his 95% abnormal morphology sperm but when the hospital tested they said everything is fine. On Monday 13th July i’ve to go for a HSG were i will have die inserted into my tubes to make sure everything is ok there….Will they tell me my results there & then or do I have to keep on waiting again?
PLEASE HELP

Hi. In answer to your question, I have been through the HSG test…and I agree with an earlier post, it did cause some rather uncomfortable cramps. My doctor recommended taking Motrin before coming in, which I did…once it was all over with however, I didn’t have any more cramping.
Depending on your doctor, you will most likely find out right then. Mine let me watch the screen and told me exactly what to look for…ie the dye spilling over out of my ovaries, tubes, etc. We found that my left tube was blocked and that there was more possible scarring from my previous baby…I had a bad infection followed by an emergency d & c thanks to heavy bleeding. Anyhow, my point is, we were not looking good for another baby, and had been trying for a long time…including one m/c.
The reason I bring it up is because I was then scheduled for a laparoscopy/laparotomy to repair my left tube etc. What the doc didn’t tell me (and you can google this) is that for the three months following an HSG your fertility raises…I think to something crazy like 80 percent. That being said, I was scheduled for my surgery, only when I went in, it couldn’t be done because I was prego!!!!! I have had two friends go through the HSG now and one has fallen pregnant as well. Just wanted to share because when it was me, it all felt hopeless, and it’s not!
So, good luck, and you should find out something then, and the added bonus is your fertility will be raised for about three months.

Good Luck, I have had a HSG done 2x. It is not bad. It does hurt a little, my dr recommended that I take tylenol an hour before and then right after.
The tech showed me the scans each time. But then wouldn’t really talk about them. I had 1 tube 3/4 blocked.
Good Luck

hi, ive had this done and i will say my experience wasn’t a nice one!
the most difficult part for me is that my cervix is tilted at an awkward angle and has got a slight delve in so the nurses couldn’t get the tube in, they give me pillow and all the rest of it to try and tilt me to a better position but it wouldn’t work so a doctor had to come in and do it, so for a procedure that is only supposed to take a short while lasted about 45 Min’s for me, and when they finally got it in because of the stress i had been through i just couldn’t relax so i found it very pain full,
i got told the results straight away.
when the picture was on the screen they let me have a look at it as well
but my friend has had it done and she said she never felt a thing so i suppose were all different.
good luck and try not to worry im sure it will go well for you

Initial results should be available immediately. (You and the radiologist can watch what is happening on a screen — you’ll be able to see the dye go through the tubes.)
But some x-rays will also be taken for further evaluation, so it may take a week or so (depending on how your hospital works) to get complete lab results from your doctor.

It depends on the tech who does it. I was lucky that mine explained what we were looking at and showed me the dye going through the tube. He explained how long it should take to spill out into the abdomen. Ive known some women who had techs that never said a word and they had to wait until the dr read the results. Good Luck to you!

Yes, I’ve had it done. It hurt, I won’t lie. I felt bad cramps. You are awake though and the doc should tell you right then if the die when through or not. Good luck

At my fertility clinic a doctor gives you the test, and will show you the dye moving through the tubes and tell you the results there and then.
HSG aren’t fun, but also aren’t as bad as most women say, and do go by quickly. I had the catheter fall out half way through, so I actually got to go through it twice, lucky me. Take 2 advils an hour before the procedure to help with cramping. And bring a pad with you (some of the dye takes awhile to come out, and some women have light bleeding). Also have someone drive you.
It’s a very informative procedure, and your chances of conceiving increases during the first 3 months following the procedure. I got pregnant the next cycle, (though just miscarried due to autoimmune issues).
